With over 240 ancient monuments in the area, Rathcroghan is “one of the most important prehistoric and early medieval landscapes in all of Irelan," according to Daniel Curley who manages the site's visitor center in the nearby town of Tulsk.

Grange Stone Circle Lough Gur
Grange Stone Circle Lough Gur

It is the largest standing stone circle in Ireland, 150 feet in diameter and enclosed by 113 standing stones. The largest stone is Rannach Chruim Duibh (Crom Dubh’s Division) and is over 13 feet high and weighs 40 tons. The entrance stones are matched by a pair of equally impressive slabs on the southwest side, whose tops slope down towards each other to form a v-shape.
A short distance to the north-north east of the main stone circle, is a second smaller circle, also constructed of large stones. To the north of this is a large leaning standing stone.
Reviews
Surprisingly easy to find, has parking on both sides of the road and is free to enter and enjoy. They ask for a donation to help maintain the fence.
The circle is complete, there are stones or stone remnants at every point. It’s a cool and calming thing to see.
We are happy we made the stop. The Lough Gur heritage Centre is 5 minutes down the road.

Falconry would be suitable for the 10 year old with adult supervision and the price is €75 per adult and €50 per child.
Our suites would also have a couch bed, we could offer two rooms interconnecting which would be a king room and twin room with an interconnecting door.

Fantastic day trip from nearby Bantry. The island itself is wonderful, all sorts of hidden corners and surprises, and the gardens themselves are truly impressive. The cafe was also quite good for pastries and snacks. The boat ride over is a nice, short trip; you see seals along the way and it's very sweet. My one complaint is that the tours of the house seem somewhat hard to access, they only accept ten people at a time, and there's a long delay between tours, so chances are you won't get in. Not sure if it's worth it or not, though. We certainly had a great visit without seeing the house; fun for kids, too

The castle is up on top of the hill so the views are great. The structure has some interesting history. It is relatively small so not much time is needed to take it all in.
If you have people with you with difficulty walking, drop them off further up the hill towards the castle entrance and then double back to park in the parking lot. The climb from the lot can be tough on older folks, as it goes straight up the hill.
Take the tour- the guides are so good at what they do. Little tip- the 'official' car park is €4.50. On street parking is much cheaper than that, so don't waste your money-park on the street!!
